Professional Recognition Awards Criteria
The Macomb County Counseling Association offers a yearly professional recognition award program. It is our privilege to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession of counseling. Nominations should be submitted to the MCCA President by April 15, 2010. The MCCA executive board will make selections. Nominators and recipients will be notified about selections and awards will be presented at the MCCA spring
luncheon/breakfast.

School Counselor of The Year – (up to 4 Awards)
The purpose of these awards is to recognize elementary, middle/junior high, secondary, and postsecondary counselors for outstanding achievement.

Eligibility

  1. The candidate must be currently employed full time as a school or college counselor and have completed five consecutive years of counseling at the level of nomination.
  2. The candidate must be a current member of MCCA.
  3. The candidate must be certified as a school counselor or LPC in the State of Michigan.

Criteria

  1. The candidate must have displayed leadership within their school or college and professional associations.
  2. The candidate must have demonstrated innovations in guidance and counseling programs and in further developing existing guidance services.
  3. The candidate should possess attributes indicative of an ethical and professional school counselor.

Community Counselor of The Year Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize a community or private practice counselor who has demonstrated outstanding service to their practice or agency.

Eligibility

  1. The candidate must be currently employed as an agency/community counselor and have completed five consecutive years of work in the profession of counseling.
  2. The candidate must be a current member of MCCA.
  3. The candidate must be licensed as an LLPC, or LPC in the State of Michigan.

Criteria

  1. The candidate must have displayed leadership within their practice, agency, and professional associations.
  2. The candidate must have demonstrated innovations in counseling programs and in further developing existing services.
  3. The candidate should possess attributes indicative of an ethical and professional counselor.

Rookie of The Year Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize a school, community, or private practice counselor who has practiced for less than three years. During this short time they must have demonstrated outstanding service to their school or agency.

Eligibility

  1. The candidate must be currently employed as a school or agency/community counselor and have completed three consecutive years of counseling in the area of nomination.
  2. The candidate must be a current member of MCCA.
  3. The candidate must be licensed as a school counselor, LLPC, or LPC in the State of
    Michigan.

Criteria

  1. The candidate must have displayed leadership within their school, agency, and
    professional associations.
  2. The candidate must have demonstrated innovations in counseling programs and in
    further developing existing services.
  3. The candidate should possess attributes indicative of an ethical and professional
    counselor.

Advocate of The Year
The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual or organization whose advocacy for
school or community counseling has resulted in further development of the profession.

Eligibility

  1. Candidates may be a teacher, parent, school board member, principal, superintendent, legislator, liaison board member, or community leader.

Criteria

  1. Candidates must have worked towards improving counseling services at the local, state, or national level.
  2. Candidates must have promoted counseling services.

Administrator of The Year
This award is to recognize an administrator, supervisor, director, or coordinator who has made significant contributions to the field of school counseling at the local, state, or national level.

Eligibility

  1. Candidate must be currently employed full time as an administrator, supervisor, director, or coordinator.
  2. Candidate must have completed five years of service in one of the aforementioned positions.

Criteria

  1. Demonstrated initiation of guidance and counseling programs within a school, district, or intermediate school district.
  2. Supports counseling and guidance services
  3. Seeks to improve existing counseling and guidance programs.
